A Dog shower cubicle in the garage!

A Dog shower cubicle in the garage!

There's nothing quite like the joy of a dog capering across fields with wild abandon, whatever the weather. Though the joy is short-lived for their owner, who must deal with the distinctive aroma of wet dog, muddy paw prints and the dreaded shaking of fur, saliva and detritus through the house and car. Read on to see how one UK homeowner turned her garage space into a fabulous utility room complete with a dog shower!

When resourceful home renovator Zoe Marquis looked at the strange cubby in her garage she didn’t just see an odd shape to contend with, she saw an opportunity. Most folks might choose to create a storage cupboard in the void left by a staircase above, but Zoe’s storage needs had already been met in the home. She was intrigued by a feature she'd spotted on various American home renovations, and while at first it might sound a little over the top, a dog shower is a wonderfully practical addition to any canine-loving home.

Friends suggested a cupboard, but Liz didn’t need more storage and preferred to add a quirky and covetable dog shower cubicle.

Zoe regularly walks her pets Martell and Henny in the fields surrounding her four-bedroom home in Windsor, Berkshire, which often calls for trips to the family shower afterwards. But since completing a stunning renovation on her bathroom with the addition of a freestanding bath, Zoe was understandably reluctant to have muddy pets traipsing through the house. After spotting dedicated dog showers in homes on social media, she set about planning her own dog-washing cubicle, enlisting the services of a builder mate and doing a bit of DIY to save costs.

The gorgeous new bathroom is no place for muddy pawprints!

What was a rather dingy garage has been transformed into a beautiful laundry space and a shower cubicle for the pooches. The area includes a handy recessed shelf for shampoos and a removable handset shower making wash time a quick and simple affair. Being completely recessed into the cavity with a lowered base means the water is contained, so those shake-offs don't affect the whole laundry.

Save costs as Liz did by completing jobs such as grouting yourself.

Liz is super happy with the result, saying via Instagram, "It is still, hands down, the best modification we’ve made to the house so far! I couldn’t be a dog owner without one now!"

The dog shower is neatly recessed near the laundry sink, and features a handy shelf for grooming products.
